Is Wadden Sea oyster spawning and dispersal happening right now?

As of today, in season, building toward peak (~July 1). Earth Exhibit tracks the live conditions and flags it the moment it is on.

Oyster populations in the Wadden Sea comprise remnant native European flat oysters (Ostrea edulis) and large, expanding stands of introduced Pacific (Magallana/Crassostrea gigas).

Adults reproduce in warm months and release larvae that disperse with tides and currents across the tidal flats, producing the seasonal pulses of settlement and early recruitment that restoration projects and fisheries monitor.
