The Turnagain Arm bore tide is the dramatic, incoming tidal surge that races up Turnagain Arm near Anchorage as the tide floods the shallow, narrowing inlet.
The surge is driven by large semidiurnal tides from the Gulf of Alaska and appears as a breaking wave and turbulent current that is visible from multiple roadside pullouts along the Seward Highway.
