As of today, out of season, returns ~April. Earth Exhibit tracks the live conditions and flags it the moment it is on.
Each year Rakiura (Stewart Island) Māori and their descendants undertake a customary harvest of sooty shearwater (tītī) chicks from 36 islands around Stewart Island.
The legally prescribed birding season runs 1 April - 31 May, with families permitted to arrive from 15 March to prepare.
Harvesting is managed under local customary systems and the Titi (Muttonbird) Islands Regulations 1978.
