Every winter Steller sea lions (Eumetopias jubatus) concentrate at rocky shore haulouts and sheltered bays around Hokkaido where prey and sea-ice conditions are favorable.
These seasonal aggregations are best viewed from shore or guided boats during daylight and provide one of the region's most reliable large-marine-mammal spectacles.
