At Sossusvlei the Namib Desert's iron-rich sand turns deep orange-red at low sun angles.
At sunrise the sun grazes dune faces and creates sharp, long shadows that reveal ripples, slipfaces, and dramatic curvature.
The effect is strongest in the dry season when skies are clear and contrast is highest.
