As of today, out of season, returns ~October. Earth Exhibit tracks the live conditions and flags it the moment it is on.
Each winter tens of thousands of Svalbard-breeding barnacle geese (Branta leucopsis) migrate to the Solway Firth and nearby estuaries to feed on salt marshes and pasture and to roost on tidal flats.
The concentration is one of the most important wintering sites for this population and is driven by tidal cycles and agricultural feeding opportunities.
