Is Snowdonia Bog Cotton (cotton-grass) Plumes happening right now?

As of Jun 19, 2026, 8:24 PM, peak season now, through ~July 10. Earth Exhibit tracks the live conditions and flags it the moment it is on.

Each summer Snowdonia's blanket bogs and upland mires fill with the white plumes of cotton-grass (Eriophorum spp.).

The feathery seed heads create broad, shifting carpets on peatlands and are easiest to photograph in calm light at dawn or dusk.

Displays vary by altitude and bog condition.
