Is Snaefellsnes Orcas (herring season) happening right now?

As of today, out of season, returns ~October. Earth Exhibit tracks the live conditions and flags it the moment it is on.

Each winter large herring shoals attract Orcinus orca to the shallow bays and fjords of the Snæfellsnes Peninsula.

Local whale-watching operators stage boat trips and shore watches to observe surface feeding, tail-slaps, and coordinated hunting when the herring arrive.

The event is driven by the timing and location of the herring migration rather than a fixed calendar date.
