As of today, in season, building toward peak (~November 1). Earth Exhibit tracks the live conditions and flags it the moment it is on.
The Cape Cross Seal Reserve on Namibia's Skeleton Coast hosts the world's largest breeding colony of Cape fur seals (Arctocephalus pusillus pusillus), with up to 210,000 individuals present during the breeding season.
Bull seals arrive in late October to establish territories, and thousands of pups are born in November and December.
The colony exists at the dramatic intersection of the Namib Desert and the cold Benguela Current, creating a landscape of fog, sand, and seals stretching to the horizon.
