Is Pentland Firth Tidal Race (Caithness) happening right now?

As of today, peak season now, through ~December 31. Earth Exhibit tracks the live conditions and flags it the moment it is on.

The Pentland Firth is a narrow strait between mainland Caithness and the Orkney islands, where tidal currents accelerate through constricted channels to produce strong flows, standing waves, whirlpools, and large eddies.

These currents are predictable with the tide, and can exceed 8 knots regularly and reach 12+ knots in constrictions, creating dramatic marine conditions and significant tidal energy potential.
