As of today, out of season, returns ~August. Earth Exhibit tracks the live conditions and flags it the moment it is on.
Each autumn the halophytic sango-sou (coral grass) that grows in Notoro's coastal salt marshes turns vivid crimson, forming continuous red carpets along shallows and tidal flats.
The color display lasts several weeks and is most striking on calm, sunny days when the red plants contrast with blue water and sky.
