Mount Yoshino in Nara prefecture is famous for its senbonzakura, a roughly 30,000-tree planting of Somei Yoshino cherry trees that bloom in waves up the mountain each spring.
The trees flower in distinct bands by elevation, producing a multi-week display valued by Japanese and international visitors alike.
