As of today, in season, building toward peak (~July 1). Earth Exhibit tracks the live conditions and flags it the moment it is on.
Ice caves form each melt season where meltwater tunnels and calving create openings in the Mendenhall Glacier terminus and englacial channels.
They can produce vivid blue light and dramatic ice textures, but their presence, size, and stability vary year to year and they are hazardous to approach without guides.
