As of today, peak season now, through ~October 15. Earth Exhibit tracks the live conditions and flags it the moment it is on.
Hanifaru Bay in Baa Atoll, Maldives, is a protected marine site where reef manta rays (Mobula alfredi) regularly aggregate to feed on dense plankton blooms.
Strong currents and tidal flows funnel plankton into the shallow bay, producing daytime feeding congregations that can number from dozens to over a hundred individuals during the Southwest Monsoon season.
