Machair is a coastal grassland habitat found on the northwest coasts of Scotland and Ireland.
On the Outer Hebrides, machair supports a concentrated display of early-summer wildflowers including orchids, thrift, kidney vetch and yellow rattle.
The bloom is habitat-driven and depends on grazing, winter storms and local agricultural timing.
