Is Lofoten Skrei (Atlantic Cod) Spawning Run happening right now?
As of today, out of season, returns ~January. Earth Exhibit tracks the live conditions and flags it the moment it is on.
Each winter mature Atlantic cod known locally as skrei migrate from the Barents Sea to spawn on the shallow, rocky banks around the Lofoten and Vesterålen archipelagos.
The run concentrates large numbers of fish nearshore, supporting fisheries and wildlife viewing by boat and from shore between January and April.
