Lençóis Maranhenses is a coastal dune field in Maranhão, Brazil, where seasonal rains collect in interdunal basins to form thousands of clear freshwater lagoons.
The lagoons appear each year after the rainy season and reach their largest extent for a few months, creating striking blue-green pools against white sand.
