Lake Nakuru in Kenya's Rift Valley was once famous for mega-flocks of Lesser Flamingo (Phoeniconaias minor).
Since about 2021, rising water has lowered the lake's salinity and crashed the blue-green algae the flamingos feed on, and the great flocks have largely moved to Lake Bogoria and other soda lakes.
Flamingos still appear at Nakuru in changing numbers, but the dependable mega-congregation is now best seen at Lake Bogoria.
