Circular ice rings are rare, roughly circular cracks or clear-ice rings that form on Lake Baikal's winter surface, most often observed in the shallow straits around Olkhon Island.
They are episodic, appearing only under a narrow combination of ice thickness, calm weather, local currents and subsurface gas activity, and are documented only a handful of times each winter.
