Is Jasper-Pulaski Sandhill Crane Staging happening right now?

As of today, out of season, returns ~October. Earth Exhibit tracks the live conditions and flags it the moment it is on.

Each autumn, tens of thousands of sandhill cranes funnel through the Eastern Flyway and stage at Jasper-Pulaski Fish & Wildlife Area in northwest Indiana before continuing south.

They roost overnight in shallow marshes and disperse at dawn to feed in surrounding farm fields, then stream back at dusk in long, bugling skeins.

From the two-story viewing platform overlooking the Goose Pasture, observers watch wave after wave of cranes drop into the field in the failing light.

Fall daily peak counts typically exceed 15,000 birds and have reached around 30,000, making this the largest sandhill crane concentration east of the Mississippi River.
