Is Mountain Avens Bloom (Upper Teesdale) happening right now?

As of Jun 19, 2026, 8:24 PM, peak season now, through ~July 15. Earth Exhibit tracks the live conditions and flags it the moment it is on.

Mountain avens (Dryas octopetala) is an Arctic-alpine flower that survives as a rare relic in northern England.

Its best-known Pennine population grows on the sugar-limestone of Cronkley Fell and Widdybank Fell in Upper Teesdale, where low mats of white, eight-petalled flowers open across the fell.

In these uplands the bloom runs from about early June into July, later than lowland populations.
