Is Indian River Lagoon Bioluminescence happening right now?

As of Jun 19, 2026, 8:54 PM, peak season now, through ~August 31. Earth Exhibit tracks the live conditions and flags it the moment it is on.

The Indian River Lagoon lights up from regular summer dinoflagellate blooms and winter comb-jelly aggregations.

In summer the bioluminescent dinoflagellate Pyrodinium bahamense produces bright blue-green flashes when water is disturbed.

In cooler months comb jellies (sea walnuts and related ctenophores) create a different, often rainbow-like glow.
