As of today, in season, building toward peak (~July 1). Earth Exhibit tracks the live conditions and flags it the moment it is on.
Large icebergs calved from the Jakobshavn Isbrae (Sermeq Kujalleq) flow down Ilulissat Icefjord into Disko Bay.
In summer months wind, tides and high calving rates can strand and compact ice near the fjord mouth, producing temporary iceberg jams that alter local navigation and create dramatic seascapes of stacked bergs.
