Is Humboldt Penguin Breeding Season happening right now?

As of today, out of season, returns ~March. Earth Exhibit tracks the live conditions and flags it the moment it is on.

Humboldt penguins (Spheniscus humboldti) breed in two annual peaks, austral autumn (March to April) and spring (September to October), in their coastal habitats of Peru and Chile.

They avoid the hot summer, when their burrows overheat.

The breeding season brings courtship, nest building, and egg-laying, with chicks hatching by the end of each peak.
