As of today, out of season, returns ~September. Earth Exhibit tracks the live conditions and flags it the moment it is on.
Every autumn the ornamental kochia (Bassia scoparia, commonly called kochia or 'summer cypress') planted on Miharashi Hill at Hitachi Seaside Park turn vivid red, creating large swathes of crimson across the hillside.
The display is highly consistent year to year and draws photographers and day-trippers from across Japan and abroad.
