Is Hermanus Southern Right Whale Calving Season happening right now?

As of today, in season, building toward peak (~August 1). Earth Exhibit tracks the live conditions and flags it the moment it is on.

Each austral winter and spring southern right whales (Eubalaena australis) migrate from Antarctic feeding grounds into Walker Bay (Hermanus/Gansbaai) to calve, nurse and mate.

The season runs through the cooler months when shallow, sheltered waters provide a nursery; peak whale numbers and mating activity typically occur in late winter to spring.
