Is Great Salt Lake Pink Algae Bloom happening right now?

As of today, out of season, returns ~July. Earth Exhibit tracks the live conditions and flags it the moment it is on.

Under hot, dry conditions and high salinity, halophilic microalgae (primarily Dunaliella salina) and salt-loving microbes proliferate in parts of the Great Salt Lake, producing carotenoid and microbial pigments that turn shallow water pink to red.

Blooms are patchy, highly variable, and tied to water level, temperature, and freshwater inflows.
