Is Great Lakes Ice Volcanoes happening right now?

As of today, out of season, returns ~December. Earth Exhibit tracks the live conditions and flags it the moment it is on.

Ice volcanoes are wave-driven conical mounds of ice that form at the seaward edge of a landfast ice shelf.

When strong onshore waves travel under a thin ice shelf they push water and slush up through holes and preexisting cones; the ejected material freezes and the cone grows.

They are a winter coastal phenomenon observed on the Great Lakes, including Lake Michigan, during periods of persistent subfreezing air and active onshore waves.
