Is Glass Eel (Elver) Spring Run — Maine, USA happening right now?

As of today, out of season, returns ~March. Earth Exhibit tracks the live conditions and flags it the moment it is on.

Each spring juvenile American eels (glass eels, locally called elvers) enter Maine’s estuaries and ascend rivers.

The state-managed commercial elver season is short and tightly regulated; timing is driven by tides, water temperature, and lunar/tidal cycles, and the season may close early when the statewide quota is reached.
