Is Gippsland Lakes Bioluminescence (Noctiluca) happening right now?

As of today, out of season, returns ~February. Earth Exhibit tracks the live conditions and flags it the moment it is on.

Periodic blooms of the dinoflagellate Noctiluca scintillans produce visible bioluminescence in parts of the Gippsland Lakes.

When disturbed by waves, boats or swimmers, the organisms emit blue-green light, creating streaks and patches of 'sea sparkle' along jetties, shorelines and boat wakes.

Blooms are seasonally more likely but remain highly variable year to year.
