Is Eisstoß (Eisschollenteppich) at Jasmund / Rügen happening right now?

As of today, out of season, returns ~December. Earth Exhibit tracks the live conditions and flags it the moment it is on.

Under sustained severe winter cold the sheltered Stettiner Haff and adjacent shallow Baltic waters can freeze.

Strong south-easterly winds and currents then push large ice floes (Eisschollen) westward onto the open coast of Rügen, forming a dramatic carpet and piled ridges of drift ice visible from the chalk cliffs and harbors of Jasmund National Park.

Events are rare and weather-dependent.
