As of today, peak season now, through ~August 15. Earth Exhibit tracks the live conditions and flags it the moment it is on.
Chott el-Jerid is a vast endorheic salt flat in southern Tunisia where strong surface heating and near-surface temperature gradients create superior mirages known as Fata Morgana.
During the hot season the flat, reflective crust and calm air frequently produce shimmering, water-like illusions and inverted or stacked distant images along the horizon.
