As of today, out of season, returns ~November. Earth Exhibit tracks the live conditions and flags it the moment it is on.
The Chocolate Hills are a geological formation of at least 1,268 (some counts say up to 1,776) near-perfectly symmetrical grass-covered limestone cones spread across 14,435 hectares in the interior of Bohol, Philippines.
During the wet season (June to November) they are carpeted in green grass, but as the dry season sets in (December to May) the tropical sun parches the grass to a uniform chocolate brown, giving the hills their name.
The hills are remnants of uplifted coral reef limestone from the Late Pliocene to Early Pleistocene, sculpted by millennia of dissolution, weathering, and erosion.
They range from 30 to 50 meters in height, with the tallest reaching 120 meters.
The formation is part of the Bohol Island UNESCO Global Geopark and has been on the UNESCO World Heritage Tentative List since 2006.
