As of today, in season, building toward peak (~July 1). Earth Exhibit tracks the live conditions and flags it the moment it is on.
Each summer, multiple species of Lampyridae (local name: junkiri or junakiri) emerge in the lowland Terai and adjacent mid-hill valleys, producing increased nocturnal flashing over riversides, marshes and wet rice-field edges.
Activity is tied to warm, humid pre-monsoon and monsoon conditions and is most reliable in June - September, with local peaks in midsummer.
