Each year blue whales (Balaenoptera musculus) migrate into the Santa Barbara Channel and waters around the northern Channel Islands to feed on dense krill aggregations.
These seasonal feeding concentrations are among the largest reliable blue whale foraging areas in the world and are most commonly observed from late spring through early fall.
