Is Cape Verde Humpback Whale Breeding Season happening right now?

As of today, out of season, returns ~December. Earth Exhibit tracks the live conditions and flags it the moment it is on.

The Cape Verde Islands are the principal known breeding and calving ground for a small, distinct North Atlantic population of humpback whales (Megaptera novaeangliae).

Animals arrive in winter and remain through late spring to mate, give birth, and nurse calves in relatively warm, shallow island waters.

Scientific photo-identification surveys estimate roughly 270 individuals use this breeding area, with peak concentrations in March and April.
