As of today, out of season, returns ~August. Earth Exhibit tracks the live conditions and flags it the moment it is on.
Each autumn the distinctive red-and-white fly agaric (Amanita muscaria) fruits across remnants of the Caledonian pine forest in the Scottish Highlands.
Flushes are driven by late-summer and autumn rainfall and create concentrations of fruiting bodies in mossy pine carpets and old-growth stands.
