As the Amazon's annual flood recedes into the dry, low-water season (roughly June to October), botos (Inia geoffrensis) become concentrated in shrinking river channels, lakes, and lagoons.
This is when the pink dolphins gather in their densest groups and are easiest to find, because falling water leaves them less room to disperse into the flooded forest.
